A message from the chair...
 
This is an update to all of our members as well as the many volunteers and organisations that support our group but feel free to forward on as you wish. It is meant primarily as a way of conveying; where we are now, where we want to get to and how we are going to get there.

Firstly, I would like to thank the previous Chairperson, Ashley Smith, for the sterling job she has done over the past couple of years and taken us to where we are now. We have a fantastic Twins and Supertwins Club which enjoys good attendance and support throughout the entire year. Also, many thanks to Rachael Larbalestier who has not only managed the position of Treasurer but at the same time took on the interim duties of Chairperson to her credit...it is great for us all to know that she will still continue in the capacity as Club Secretary!

I have agreed to take on the role of Chair with a view to further support the continuing success and growth of the Twins Club. I truly believe we can successfully grow our club and will do all I can to support this aim with some key goals which I will come on to.

However, whilst we have a successful club, we are in a not so good position financially and this is a priority that we really need to focus on and resolve.

The finances for the club are a very simple one. After we have paid any outstanding bills up to the end of the last financial year and financed event room hire for this summer, we are on an even playing field of a zero bank balance. In the past we have relied on lottery funding and as this is no longer available means we are financially vulnerable if we don’t do anything.

Moving on from this note however, we have some very positive members of the team driving forward the goals we want to achieve and I would like to make sure that not only are these people acknowledged for the work they do but so that you all know who they are and can contact them if you wish to.

So, going forward we are looking for help and support to achieve our 3 key goals:

1. Secure funding (part or in full) for our running costs for the year ahead.
2. Market and promote our club wider and further to engage with new members, volunteers and other support organisations.

3. Manage ourselves as a club to grow stronger both financially and in terms of an organisation, so that we can sustain a profitable future for new families of multiples in the years to come.

Finally, if anybody has any ideas, small and large, these are all welcome as it is you the members that make the group so please throw them in. This is also a sneaky opportunity to inform and/or remind you of 2 things.

1. We have arranged a BBQ Fundraiser for the club which is on Saturday 17th July @ Mottisfont Village Hall from 12pm-3pm. We will be selling tickets per family so please spread the word and help support the event, especially if you can lend a hand in any way to help before as well as on the day itself!

2. And as many of you already know, our website is still running (www.southamptontwins.com) and being updated as well as our very own Facebook group and Twitter too! Please take a look at these and get involved with the group where you can. In an effort not to coin a phrase from a large supermarket chain..."every little helps!"

I do hope we can achieve our goals not only for us and our children now but for all the new parents and children in the years ahead!
